A 3D denim theme anchored the G-Star RAW runway show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin yesterday evening in a high-energy, no-compromise show, truly reflecting the international denim brand’s core DNA. G-Star’s proprietary raw denim formed the basis for the colour palette in the show, featuring a wide range of blues – from deep, dark indigo to bright blue through to chambray blue – combined with desert colours and a few accents of colour.
G-Star Raw: Jeans for simple Dreams
Showcasing G-Star’s craftsmanship and abilities as a denim engineer, mixed with the commercial collection, the show also featured a number of handcrafted pieces, created in G-Star’s denim atelier. These pieces feature dramatized, more extreme silhouettes and details, and form the inspiration for the commercial Spring/Summer 2012 collection.
One example in the show was the extreme long, flared denim skirt with naval inspired details such as a laceup
closure. Characteristics of this inspiration piece can be retrieved in a number of garments in the women’s collection including the Navy Anorak, Navy Flare and Navy Pencil Skirt.
Strong representatives of the key 3D theme included the ‘moulded’ Jeans in the show; denims that are stretched on special mannequins before being steamed and then baked in a special laundry process to permanently transform a flat product into a 3D form. Examples included G-Star RAW Essentials’ Arc Loose Tapered for men, and the women’s New Kick Cropped Firn both showing an authentic product, executed in a modern silhouette, as is key to G-Star.
Innovative denim looks were complemented with desert and army inspired pieces such as the Correct Line Canyon Parka for men. To complete the G-Star look and feel, the models showed a wide range of hats; from raw and sturdy to dandy elegant trilby.
For women, the tough, functional inspired looks were balanced with super feminine influences, reflecting the ‘unexpected combinations’ philosophy at the heart of the G-Star brand. This balance between femininity and masculinity in all women’s looks at the catwalk created a confident and powerful female look.
Representative of G-Star’s women’s look, British actress Gemma Arterton, sat front row watching the show, along with a range of German celebrities and press.
